Your First Visit

What to expect

I will begin the session by briefly explaining the philosophy and goals of Chinese Medicine and answering any questions you may have before we begin.  Next I will do an extensive intake, which is a comprehensive background interview about your health and any information that may be relevant to your condition. I will visually examine your tongue looking at the shape, color, size, and coating, check your pulse, and if you are coming in with a complaint of pain will palpate the area.  Following the intake you will receive your first acupuncture treatment. It takes only a few minutes to insert the needles, after which you will lie quietly, listening to soft music, and usually become quite relaxed. After the treatment we will discuss the number of treatments I think you will need, and I will give advise on lifestyle changes and herbal supplements that I think will benefit you.

Preparation

  1. Fill out the intake forms and make sure to bring them with you to your first appointment.
  2. Have something to eat an hour or so before arriving so that you are neither hungry nor full when we do the acupuncture.
  3. Avoid drinking coffee for two hours before coming in.  The caffeine tends to cause increased tension in the body and can be detrimental to the process.
